Viruses as Etiologic Agents in Acute Leukemia

James T. Grace Jr. M.D.1

1 Deputy Director, Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, New York.

In summary, it can be stated that viruses can induce leukemia in a variety of animal species, and although there is no present proof of the viral etiology of human leukemia, there is some suggestive evidence. Reflecting the possibility of such etiology is the fact that the search for a human leukemia virus is being carried out in many laboratories around the world.
