Nonpalpable Carcinoma in Fibrocystic Disease of the Breast

Aaron M. Schwartz M.D., F.A.C.S. and Stanley S. Siegelman M.D.

Seven patients with fibrocystic disease of the breast and nonpalpable breast carcinoma were diagnosed by combined roentgenologic and clinical examination on a periodic basis. Close cooperation between the surgeon, roentgenologist, and pathologist is essential for the accurate localization of the tumor as well as it excision and definitive surgical therapy. The occult area of microcalcification was excised without difficulty, and axillary node involvement was not noted in the five patients upon whom radical mastectomy was performed.
